As an update on Celie Logan's Gone to the Dogs, she has not been picked up by publisher's...yet. In the meantime I am investigating other publishing routes and will let you all know when and how she's coming out :)
I've had many incarnations in my lifetime. I started life in Denver Colorado and have basically lived here ever since except in college. I started adulthood as a nurse in pediatrics. I traveled around the world solo for ten months then worked in geriatrics. Once I was thoroughly bored with that I dove into the emergency room. When I had kids I chose to stay home with them and that's where I was until I couldn't possibly pretend they were actually home anymore, but working adults LOL!
I was so many "Moms" over the course of the twenty years home with my kids--Room Mom, Soccer Mom, School of Rock Mom, Marching Band Food Mom, Destination Imagination Mom, Shakespeare Mom etc, etc.
In the middle of all that Moming, I searched for myself and found all sorts of interesting things.
The first was reconnecting with my love of writing. I read The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin where she spoke of doing National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). I'd never heard of it, but as many of you know, you "win" if you write 50,000 words in a month. When you "win" you can print out your very own winner's certificate and buy yourself a T-shirt. I never thought I had a novel in me. I'd written and published a few short pieces and some poetry in an anthology that publishes everything submitted. I "won" my first Nano with a memoir of a patient named Jimmy. I went on to "win" four more Nanos that now sit in various forms of disrepair. I work on them every week with my Nano writing group which is fabulous. I also have a fun writing critique group. As a NaNo update...Nano has been shut down for various reasons, but I am forever grateful that it gave me a fun platform to create my novels when I didn't think I could. I will always be a devoted "pantser" (writing by the seat of my pants) for my novels.
As a classically trained Mezzo Soprano singing with Ye Wanton Singers, a 16th-century Madrigal group, I was surprised when I found myself as lead singer in a rock band raising money for the music program at my kids elementary school. After that band fell apart (as bands do), a group of fun and fab neighborhood moms and I created a rock band named SMAK where I sang and played rhythm guitar. Our last gig on March 10, 2020...completely packed with all our friends, neighbors and family could have been a huge super spreader, but fortunately wasn't. As with the rest of the world post covid, our band shifted and dissolved but it was a fun incredible run while it lasted. While I love rock and roll, classical music speaks to me, so now I sing in church, sing my opera at home and plan on making a CD of the lullabies I sang every night to my children.
Along the way I found Hawkquest, a non-profit organization that has thirty-six non-releasable birds of prey which we use for education. We do over 600 event a year. We have eagles, owls, falcons, hawks, and a fantastic turkey vulture. On winter weekends we fly our four eagles. I've been with Hawkquest for over twelve years! These birds have given me joy beyond belief. Any day with the birds is a good day!
In 2017 I fortunately found Bright Line Eating. Having struggled with my weight most of my life, I thought this was just another diet that would never work. After taking the incredible online boot camp with the brilliant Susan Peirce Thompson who works with food addiction, then continuing with the amazing supportive online community, I lost 75 pounds in a year and have kept it off eight years. I'm very involved with this community and have met some of the best people I've known in my lifetime! I'm a Bright Lifer forever!!
My husband Mike, a hilarious accountant, just celebrated our 33th anniversary! He's in the middle of retiring so we'll see how that goes when he's in my writing space all the time lol! He's the yang to my yin so I think we're together for eternity.
My son Cole has lived in Medellin, Colombia, for almost three years and will be married to the lovely Alexa who he met in Medellin by the end of the year!! He is working in cyber security, translating on line and pursuing his love of music.
My daughter, Meredith, graduated from Western Washington University in Environmental Science a few years ago and at the moment is an oyster farmer :) It is grueling work but she loves it and literally goes with the tide. Well... we named her Meredith which means Protector of the Sea, so I guess she won't be moving back to Colorado any time soon LOL! As a writer it defines how important names can be!
We have a cute 15 pound "baby cat" named Mochi and a few fish, Pinky, Yellowy, purply, orangy and bluey named by yours truly--such a creative writer :) Life is good .
Stay tuned for Celie Logan's Gone to the Dogs!! (formerly titled Pink Cashmere)
